Thought you’d like to hear about some of the things we are enjoying this summer…
During the ‘hottest June on record’ I have enjoyed swimming every day off Hunmanby Gap beach. I usually go down around teatime when it is very quiet on the beach. It is never what most people would call warm but it really takes less than a minute to get used to the cold water after which the experience is fantastic. I’m not an intrepid wild swimmer who swims all year but I do love to swim and length swimming at Bridlington Leisure Centre can get a teeny bit boring. But Filey Bay is safe (i.e. very shallow so your feet need never be off the ground), clean (water quality rated excellent) and simply stunning. There is no feeling quite like it when there is just you and a couple of seagulls as far as the eye can see.
Merlin Bird ID App. Like a Shazam for birdsong. Free and fantastic. Tree Sparrows, Spotted Flycatchers, Skylarks, Kittiwakes, Willow Warblers, Tree Creepers, Marsh Tits and many more recognised during recent walks and in sitting in the garden having my evening G&T. I can now recognise Wrens, Blackbirds, Sparrows, Chiff Chaffs and Skylarks!
Enjoying eating peas, strawberries, lettuces, raspberries, broad beans, sprouting broccoli and new potatoes and beetroot as well as filling vases with sweet peas, herbs and pale pink roses – all from the garden.
Not really a summer activity but taking up the flute again after many years, as a brain activity more than anything. I have an online teacher and am just really learning the fingering of the notes again but great fun (don’t think Jack is enjoying it as much he just looks at me in bewilderment then leaves the room.)
Paul is mainly enjoying his new irrigation system Ollie octopus. £5.99 from ‘middle at Lidl’ and really does the trick. See below.
