Why are there no flies this year? This is the countryside and a farm to boot – there are always flies in summer. Still got all the other creatures eating everything in the veg patch. I’m not complaining but it is a bit worrying.
I’ve googled it and there is no mention. It could be the weather. As you know 2024 has been a very wet year. Nothing else has changed on the farm except Paul has let the grass grow in the meadow in the interests of wildlife (saving himself a lot of mowing in the process). On the other hand the farmer has cleared a lot of his space in preparation for his wedding so they should kind of balance each other out. All the surrounding farms seem to be growing the same stuff they always do.
Anyway, let’s enjoy it … and while you are here please also enjoy the little walk through the meadow and down to the pond which, again because of the wet spring weather, hasn’t dried up yet and is abundant with wildlife and irises.
