Visitors and guests of Dale Farm will have noticed Paul’s fondness for all things metal. As we have carried out repairs and renewals around the farm, ancient wagon wheels and parts of old farm equipment have been carefully rescued and positioned as these objects of history and beauty deserve. Some pieces are just fragments but others are almost complete such as the turnip picker which can be found in the woodland and which claimed the finger of our current farmer’s grandfather! Apparently the journey to the Doctor in Scarborough by horse and cart took so long that the finger could not be re-attached.
Interspersed with these unearthed items, you will find some more exotic creatures including dragons, dragon flies, praying mantis and peacocks as well as enormous spiders, butterflies and fish. These are Paul’s sculptures. In a former life he owned a steel profiling business producing parts for the construction and engineering industries and began crafting sculptures out of leftover scrap metal. This, more creative, side of the business flourished.
Last weekend was a red letter day for us as the large dragon was finally moved from its old home in Wakefield to the turning circle at Dale Farm.
